I have completed the CTC course and have submitted amended returns for the last 3 years.
Now I am trying to update my W-4 form for 2026.
The form is on an ADP Website that only allows selecting “Are you a foreign alien?” Y/N
I didn’t find that the CTC course covered how to officially declare exempt on Form W-4.

My internet search shows to claim “exempt” you only need to fill in Step 1 and Step 5. Then fill in Step 4(c) with the word “EXEMPT”. This is important to confirm because my employer only shares an ADP website to submit. It only allows for a foreign alien (which I am in the IRS definitions) but doesn’t seem to apply directly, even though our final goal is to treated as foreign aliens to the corportation, but they state this doesn’t exempt you from taxes. Which is telling me the only submission is a paper copy filled in with “Exempt” on line 4(c)…but this would have to be mailed to the corporation reporting to the Big Corporation. Of course no address provided, and my ask 4 weeks ago has gone unanswered.
