“I’m looking for a solution for in the meantime.
How do we know which phones are safe from such hacking… how do we know that any of the other company’s won’t follow after the traditional/major companies? What’s a positive solution? Who do we trust?
Windows has been with problems also, if you use windows, you have to agree to allow your contents to be shared. That’s why I stopped using windows ‘word’ because of the change of policies, it’s like they then get to own what we share, and I left using Skype as well for the same reason. Any other suggestions?

      * Get a googled phone from Rob Braxman. Gotten several of his. Switch to Linux – go to takebackourtech.org
      * There are ways to shut that feature off. That is also why Microsoft forced the CPU manufacturers not to allow you to use Win 7 forcing you to upgrade if you buy a new computer system.

      * looked at the Freedom Phone and it’s not really ready for primetime. It’s also not really anything different that an Android phone. They make a lot of claims they haven’t been able to back up. The reality is, it’s difficult to get away from Apple and Android, or someone would have done it already… I do want to move away… I chose ClearPHONE for a bunch of reasons… While it’s not 100% separation, ClearPHONE is decentralized, on the block-chain, only you have your data and it’s your option to use Google services if you choose to. “Clear” has their own apps to do most everything you need on your phone. I’m ditching my gmail email addresses and moving my personal email hosting to ProtonMail as well. Yes, I get a referral nod, but that is not why I made the switch. I’m a long time Apple everything user. They have gone to far… ClearUnited
